Nadifa Mohamed: Black Mamba Boy
|
Black Mamba Boy
A debut novel that is creating quite a
stir, with comparisons to Adichie's "Half of a yellow sun".
The Harper Collins editor responsible for acquiring the novel said:
"BLACK MAMBA BOY opened my eyes not only to the horrors endured by the
people of East Africa in the early part of the 20th century, but also
my heart to how much a human can endure when confronted by great
hardship. It’s a stunning story and is made even more heartrending by
the fact it began as a homage to the author’s father".
Set
in 1930s Sudan, the novel tells the story of a 10 year old boy's
dangerous journey alone across war-torn East Africa in a search for the
father he has never seen.
